My Journey as a Learner, My Future as a Teacher.

Welcome to my Digital Artifacts Folder!
--------------------------------------------
This blog has been created for my Education 430 course. The following quotes and pictures are examples of what I believe affect me as a learner as well as a future educator. My essay discussed who I am as a learner and who I want to emerge as a teacher and this folder will show some of the many values I have. These artifacts reflect my values and understandings about teaching and learning. As I stated in my paper, learning is something that I will continue to pursue throughout my life.  All my images and quotes will have a brief caption as to how they affect my journey as a learner and a teacher. Please feel free to leave any comments down below!
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself."
As a teacher, I don't want to force my students in a
direction that they haven't chosen for themselves.
I simply want to help my students to see the
many options they have and show them what options they
have to choose what works best for them.
As a learner, I don't like being shoved
through a threshold that I'm not ready to cross.
I prefer when teachers guide me, not when they dictate my every move.
Inspiration         Safe         Trust          Happiness  Motivation         Respect       FRIENDSHIP Kindness  Fairness     Dependability         Fun      Creativity   SUCCESS    discovery

As a future teacher, these are the values I plan on instilling in my classroom. I want to inspire, give my students a sense of safety, show them what trust is, have a happy, motivated and respectful environment. I want an atmosphere of kindness. I want them to be successful and discover new things, I want them to have fun and be creative. I want to be a fair teacher that they can depend on.

The wisest mind has something yet to learn.

As a learner, I believe that learning is an unstoppable force that only I can control. As discussed in my paper, I enjoy learning quite a bit. When I find something I am interested, no one can stop me from learning more about it.
As a teacher, I believe that learning is a fire that cannot be put out and that it is my duty to feed the flame. A teacher should encourage learning and put more focus on understanding.

Commit yourself to lifelong learning. The most valuable asset you'll ever have is your mind and what you put into it.
In my paper I discussed how learning is lifelong and that my journey will not end as a learner because
a teacher is always learning as well. The value of learning is something I will always emphasize.

Again, there is no way in the world you can know everything. Somewhere in the world, someone knows something that you don't and that's not a bad thing. The world is huge and there is much yet to learn.
The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
As a future teacher, I want to inspire my students to greatness. I want to show them learning is the unknown and that they can conquer it as long as they are inspired. As a learner, I would want a teacher who inspires me rather than any of the other kinds of teachers.

"The best teachers are those who show you where to lookbut do not tell you what to see."

As a teacher, I don't want to force knowledge in student's heads. I just want to direct them to greatness and hope that they believe learning is worth the trip.

I want to change lives. This example is something that I hope to be able to do sometime in my teaching career. I want to teach my students life lessons, not just math lessons. I want them to know what life is and how they should spend their moments living it.
“I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only  make them THINK."
If my math teacher had thought like this, and tried to teach me rather than force knowledge in me,
I am sure I would've learned the pure math. As a teacher, I will make my students think rather than force knowledge into their minds.

Once something is in your mind, you won't lose it. Learning is more valuable than anything one can attain in their life.
It's yours to choose what to do with and no one can change that. You can form your own opinions of something you learned.

"Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best."
Again, class should be meaningful. Just teaching basics isn't going to work. Showing them what counts and why it's meaningful is more important than shoving knowledge down their throats. Students will pay more attention when they know why they're learning it.

As a student, I agree. I prefer to learn topics rather than studying. I don't like to cram knowledge, I like to absorb things that interest me. Studying is not fun, whereas
  learning is always an adventure.

What makes a student what he or she is? All of these. Examples, success,
experience, learning, teaching, believing, collaboration
- all of these contribute to
what makes a student.
As a teacher, I want to implement these values into my teaching.

"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark."
Chinese Proverb
As a future teacher, I know that I will leave a mark on each student I teach. I would hope my teaching leave a mark in a positive way but sometimes you can't control what you do unknowingly. This proverb is meaningful to me as a learner and a teacher because I know that every teacher of mine left a mark on me somehow and I would like to leave a mark on my students. I want my students to care about what I say and I want them to remember my lessons even long after they've left my class.
I don’t want to just teach my students lessons, i want them to learn what I’m teaching. Bring passion and you’ll see sparks!

"Knowledge is power, and enthusiasm pulls the switch."
 Steve Droke

I believe that all teachers should teach because they want to, not because it’s their job. I believe the best teachers are the ones who care about the student’s well being, not just their grades. I believe all teachers should bring with them a passion for teaching.

"I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework."
Edith Ann

A teacher's job is not limited to simply teaching. A lesson should touch a heart, not just the whiteboard you teach it on.

"He who dares to teach must never cease to learn."
http://www.mylinkstolearning.com/teachqts.htm
As a teacher, you will constantly be learning and you have to teach what you learn. Teaching is the type of career that requires learning on a daily basis. You have to learn how to teach, different methods for different students, and you have to learn to explain why things are important.

"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."
Socrates
As a learner I know that there is no force more powerful than knowledge and that without knowledge, this world would be ignorant.
Ignorance is the worst thing that you can have because you are unable to open your mind to the world and you will always remain incomplete because in order to learn, you must think outside of the box.
